Kilmer made his start as "Iceman" in the 1984 farce Top Secret! Before competing against "Maverick" in Top Gun in 1986. Iceman lost his voice as he suffered from throat cancer. He had to undergo two tracheotomies and chemotherapies as a result of which he lost his voice. Later on, Iceman passes away because of his throat cancer. All the students and staffs in the naval school attend his funeral. Eventhough Iceman couldn’t speak, he had a very cheerful character in the film Top gun.
