Ballan: Moorabool house linked to Melbourne Cup winner Gold Trip looks to bag new record

A “luxurious” property saddling up to break a Ballan record with its $4.35m asking price has a connection to Melbourne Cup winning horse Gold Trip, a premium luggage brand and The Block.

The house, set on 30.76ha of green fields in the Moorabool Council area northwest of Melbourne, is owned by the Roth family.

Michael Roth founded a designer handbag import business that began distributing British-based Antler luggage across Australasia more than three decades ago.

His son Sonney Roth is one of the owners of thoroughbred Gold Trip, who won the 2022 Melbourne Cup.

Belle Property Daylesford agent Natalie Fagan described the five-bedroom house at 401 Blakeville Rd as “very, very luxurious” and “very private”.

Located at the end of a tree-lined drive, the property is operated as a farm with Angus cattle and boasts “mind-blowing” views of the surrounding countryside.

“The family built it, they love it and go up there as often as they can,” Ms Fagan said.

“The concrete render on the outside of the house has been made to look like Venetian plaster.”

Apart from a hardwood timber front door, heated travertine floors and soaring ceilings, the house features stacked sliding doors that open the living space up to an enclosed alfresco area.

Here, frameless bi-fold glass windows and overhead heaters allow for year-round entertaining.

The living zone contains a marble gas fireplace, while the three of the bedrooms have ensuites and walk-in wardrobes.

Ms Fagan said the home could be divided into separate wings with a rumpus room in one section and a fitted study in the other.

Along with her colleague Ashlee McKee, Ms Fagan was an agent for the Gisborne house renovated by The Block 2022 contestants Tom and Sarah-Jane.

Ms Fagan said the Ballan home “actually almost rivals The Block in terms of how big the house is” and that both properties had been designed for family living and use as a retreat.

“There are buyers who found The Block houses didn’t suit them from whatever reason who are looking at this,” she added.

The owners were selling because their children are getting older, Ms Fagan said.

Ballan’s current $2.875m house price record was set by 573 Ballan-Greendale Rd last year, CoreLogic records show.
